FAQ for General Questions

Conveyancing involves the transfer of legal ownership of land and its improvements from one person or entity to another. This is a complicated process regulated by different laws in each state of Australia, as well as federal legislation.

The transfer of land, and any improvements on that land, must be done according to the terms of the written sale contract. Conveyancers are experts in the conditions and documentation involved in these property transfers and will ensure that contract conditions are met, and key dates are adhered to.

It is never too early to get in touch with a conveyancer, and you don’t have to wait until you are ready to sign a contract. We recommend speaking with a conveyancer as soon as you decide to buy or sell, so you can receive advice specific to your circumstances.

We are more than happy to answer any questions you may have when you are considering buying or selling, so please get in touch. And please never sign anything until you have spoken to us.

While there is no standard timeframe, the conveyancing process normally takes between four to eight weeks from the time the contract is signed to the keys being handed over on the day of settlement. Of course, there are many parties and variables involved so this can vary enormously depending on the complexity of the transaction and the contract conditions.

eConveyancing was first introduced in South Australia in 2016, with electronic settlements mandated from August 2020. Electronic settlement makes the conveyancing process more efficient as Conveyancers and financial institutions can transact together online, and no longer need to attend physical settlements.

The team at Cornerstone Conveyancing SA are experts in eConveyancing and will ensure that your transaction is completed accurately and efficiently.

The Australian Institute of Conveyancers SA Division (AICSA) is the peak body representing the conveyancing industry here in South Australia.
